Thimphu, Paro and Punakha Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Kuzuzangpo La! A very warm welcome to Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, our representative will greet you and accompany you on a scenic one-hour drive to Thimphu, the vibrant capital. En route, visit Tamchog Lhakhang to admire its historic iron chain bridge, then stop at Chunzom, where the confluence of three rivers is marked by three distinct styles of stupas. On reaching Thimphu, explore the majestic Tashichho Dzong, a fortress-monastery that serves as both a government seat and a religious center. Overnight stay at a hotel in Thimphu.
Day 2
Begin your morning with a one-hour yoga session guided by a local master, followed by breakfast. Afterward, drive to Kuensel Phodrang (Buddha Point) to admire the grand Buddha Dordenma statue and spend some quiet time meditating in its serene surroundings. In the afternoon, visit the Zilukha Nunnery for another short meditation session before continuing to the bustling vegetable market, where locals gather to trade fresh produce. End the day at the archery grounds, watching Bhutan’s national sport in action. Overnight stay in Thimphu.
Day 3
After breakfast, drive eastward toward Punakha, stopping at Dochula Pass (3,100m), where 108 chortens crown the hilltop. Here, you may spend some time in meditation at the temple overlooking sweeping views of the Himalayas. Continue down into the warmer valley of Punakha and visit Punakha Dzong, the “Palace of Great Happiness,” located at the confluence of two rivers. Later, take a short walk through rice fields to Chimi Lhakhang, the Fertility Temple dedicated to the Divine Madman. Overnight stay in Punakha.
Day 4
This morning, drive to the glacial valley of Phobjikha, famous for its pristine landscapes and as the winter home of the endangered black-necked cranes. Visit Gangtey Monastery, one of the most important Nyingma institutions, and enjoy a short meditation session in its peaceful setting. Later, hike along the Gangtey Nature Trail, a gentle one-hour walk through meadows, pine forests, and traditional villages. Visit the Crane Information Center before joining the evening prayers at the monastery. Overnight stay at a homestay in Phobjikha, offering you a warm local experience.
Day 5
After breakfast, drive back west to Paro. On the way, stop at Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, dramatically perched above the river confluence, and continue to Simtokha Dzong, Bhutan’s oldest fortress built in 1629. Arrive in Paro by evening and check into your hotel. Overnight stay in Paro.
Day 6
Rise early and drive about 30 minutes to the base of Taktsang Monastery, Bhutan’s most iconic landmark. Begin the hike through pine forests adorned with prayer flags, ascending to the legendary Tiger’s Nest, perched dramatically on a cliffside 900 meters above the valley. Spend time meditating in this sacred place where Guru Rinpoche is believed to have meditated in the 8th century. Descend back to the valley and return to Paro for the evening. Overnight stay in Paro.
Day 7
After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward journey. As you bid farewell, carry with you the peace and blessings of the Land of the Thunder Dragon.
